What the permit form says
One form
Siding is filed on the Windows / Siding / Roofing / Door Permit Application (PDF).
Permit before work
Permits must be obtained before work begins. Failing to do so brings a monetary penalty under Codified Ordinance 1501.15.
House wrap
An air vapor barrier (house wrap) is required, and the applicant initials that line.
Registered contractor
If a contractor is used, they must be registered with the city.
Debris and dumpsters
All debris is hauled from the job site. A dumpster on site needs a separate permit.
Openings
If a window or door opening changes size, a residential building permit is needed as well.
Posted and inspected
All permits must be displayed where they are easily visible from the street, and contractors call for inspections 24 hours ahead as the job progresses (city page).
Registration
Contractors register with the Building Department
Parma's application page says all contractors working in the City of Parma must be registered with the Building Department prior to performing any work, under Ordinance 1501.37, and that permits must be approved and acquired before starting any work (city page).
The city's registration requirements ask for a category (General, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Low Voltage, Fire Protection, Landscaping or Specialty Contractor), a certificate of insurance naming the City of Parma as an additional insured, a surety bond on the city's form, and a letter from the city's Tax Department (requirements).
The city points homeowners looking for registered contractors to its Citizenserve portal. The Building Department is at 6611 Ridge Road, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, on 440-885-8030 or building@cityofparma-oh.gov (department page).
