Lake Erie weather
What the last winter brought
The National Weather Service office in Cleveland called winter 2025-2026 the region's coldest and snowiest since 2014-2015. Two thaws melted the whole snowpack, in the days before Christmas and again in early January, before deep cold returned, and Lake Erie froze over completely (NWS Cleveland winter summary).
The same summary records a windstorm on March 13, 2026 that produced an 85 mph gust at Burke Lakefront Airport and caused widespread damage and power outages. Wind like that pulls vinyl panels apart at their locks and drives debris into walls.

After the storm
What to check, from the ground
- Panels missing, hanging loose or bowed out at the bottom
- Cracks and holes on the side that faced the wind
- Corner posts and J-channel pulled away from the wall
- Exposed house wrap or sheathing where siding is gone
- Photos of every wall, with dates, before anything is moved
Questions
Storm and wind damage: common questions
Should loose siding be fixed right away?
Soon. Open spots let rain and snow reach the house wrap and sheathing. Keep off ladders in wind or ice; a contractor can secure the wall.
Will you handle my insurance claim?
No. This site doesn't help with claims. Contact your insurer directly about storm damage.
